Miks olla trenniga järjepidev ka suvel?

Why be consistent with your exercise even in the summer?

Summer is a time when life seems to become more carefree – the weather is warm, the days are long and vacations are calling. It's only natural that training can take a back seat to all this. But is taking a long break from training in the summer a good idea? Spoiler: it's not. Here are some of the main reasons why it's worth continuing to exercise in the summer.

Good form doesn't last by itself.

Have you been working hard to improve your physical fitness this spring? If so, know that maintaining your fitness requires consistency. Nothing catastrophic will happen in a week, but a month or more of training break can already lead to a noticeable setback. Endurance and muscle strength decline especially quickly if they are not used for a long time.

Restarting is harder than continuing.

As your body adjusts to a sedentary lifestyle, returning to exercise can become much more difficult, both mentally and physically. Motivation drops, “but tomorrow” procrastination sets in, and exercise feels uncomfortable again. If you continue to exercise at least moderately in the summer, it will be easier to pick up the pace in the fall.

  Movement helps you rest better

Summer isn't just about physical relaxation – mental recovery is just as important. Regular exercise, especially in the fresh air, helps relieve stress, improves sleep and lifts your mood. A nice run on a forest trail or a bike ride with friends can be just the thing to help you truly relax.

Summer offers variety

If the gym doesn't appeal to you, summer is a great opportunity to change up your exercise routine. Try new things: swim in the sea or lake, hike new trails, rollerblade or play beach volleyball. Exercise doesn't always have to be a strict workout plan – in the summer it can also be pure joy.

Health doesn't go on vacation.

Our bodies and health don't take a break for the summer. Regular physical activity keeps blood pressure under control, supports immunity, helps regulate weight, and improves overall well-being. Constant movement also helps prevent injuries that can occur when returning to exercise after too long a break.

How to find balance in the summer?

You don't need to exercise 6 times a week. Moderate exercise 2-3 times a week is enough to keep your body alert. You can do shorter but more intense workouts or just longer walks - the main thing is to get your body moving.

Remember – exercise is not a punishment, but a gift to yourself. Enjoy the summer, but don't forget about your body!
